Welcome from the Program Director

Hello and thank you for your interest in the UM/JMH Internal Medicine Residency Program!

At the University of Miami/Jackson Health System internal medicine residency program, we pride ourselves on providing structured career development in a diverse, inclusive, and inspirational atmosphere. Our three training sites, all located on the same campus, provide a training environment with a breadth of pathology and a depth of diversity. Our rigorous academics provide a deep dive not only into clinical medicine but also the knowledge and skills required for future leaders, educators, and researchers in medicine.

The program received initial ACGME accreditation in August of 1954 and since that time has the distinction of providing care to the underserved and “never-served” in Miami-Dade County. Our program is founded on the cornerstone of diversity – of our patient population, our residents, and our curriculum. Whatever your interests, you can explore them through our flexible career development-focused curricula.

Our program excels through embracing evolution and revolution, as well as flexibility and visionary thinking. In 2015, our program underwent its first “revolution”, in a move to block scheduling in a unique X+Y+Z model. Leveraging our new curricular flexibility, our Global Health track started in 2015 followed by our Urban Health Track in 2017 and 2018 saw the emergence of a new Healthcare administration elective geared to the creation of physician leaders. The 2019-2020 academic year saw the creation of our fellowship and career pathways offering structured mentorship and carefully curated electives. But don't worry, for those not yet decided on their future, our leadership team is highly skilled at mentoring you to find your way.

Looking to the future, we have a vision for a program that incorporates the experiences and education necessary for the internist of the future with curricula in the business of medicine, public and population health, advocacy, and care of vulnerable populations. We strive to provide a friendly, open, and anti-racist environment that emphasizes academic excellence and leadership in healthcare. I invite you to peruse our website along your application journey!

Sincerely,
