Flags.png

The Department of Medicine of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine offers categorical internal medicine residency positions to Latin American medical graduates through the William J. Harrington Program as part of the UM/JMH IM residency program. Through a competitive selection process, we offer twelve positions to Latin American physicians with a commitment to return to their home countries upon completion of training. Once residents complete their internal Medicine training, they may pursue a fellowship in their specialty of choice.

Requirements/application process:

  • Must be a citizen of a Latin American and/or Caribbean country who requires a US visa to work (J-1 visa only - US permanent residents or citizens do not qualify)

  • Must show plans to work in, or help improve, healthcare in your home country. Your ERAS personal statement can be about any topic(s) you wish but should cover your long-term plans and specific concrete ideas of how you will contribute

  • ECFMG certification OR eligibility for provisional certification through accepted ECFMG pathways. *

  • No year-of-graduation cutoff but preferably 5 years or less at the time of graduation

  • US clinical experience is preferred but not required. **

  • Applications and supporting documents are accepted only through ERAS. Select the WJH track when applying to our program.

  • We participate in the NRMP and have a separate NRMP program code code.

    • Internal Medicine (Harrington) - 1104140C2

      * We understand applicants may be in the process of obtaining provisional certification at the time of application. Certification (provisional or definitive) is required before the NRMP rank order list deadline.

** We understand the limitations in obtaining US clinical experience in 2020. Applications will be reviewed holistically and in this context.

For any questions or concerns related to applications, please contact the program directly.
