- Currently a non-profit, tertiary care hospital with 1,550 licensed beds
- Safety net hospital for Miami-Dade County, serving over 3 million citizens
- Major teaching facility for the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine
- Center for training of nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physical therapists, as well as medical students, residents, fellows, post-docs
- Jackson Memorial Hospital offers a unique training experience given its location and diversity of cases
- Miami-Dade Country: 62% Hispanic, 20% African-American, 18% White, non-Hispanic
- Also serves as a major referral center for South America, Central America, and the Caribbean
The Miami Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital
- Opened in 1968
- Serves over 250,000 veterans in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe Counties
- 191 beds with 82 medical beds
- major sites for graduate medical education, in additional to systems of coordinated care including Emergency Medical Services, Quality Improvement, and Quality Control research
- Focus on Evidenced based practice, and education of residents in these skills
The University of Miami Hospital (UMH)
- 560-bed hospital owned and operated by the University of Miami
- Previously Cedar’s Hospital, acquired by the University of Miami in December, 2007
- Special emphasis on Cardiovascular Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Perioperative Medicine
